The Sergei Diaghilev International Association for the Promotion of Choreographic Art began life in Gdynia in 2002 as the Sergei Diaghilev Association for the Promotion of Contemporary Dance and Balletic and Choreographic Works. In 2008, the Association relocated to Łódź, at the same time adopting the name it bears now. Experienced in organising international ventures, the Association has been responsible for promoting the work of professional dancers and choreographers from different countries of the world and awarding their achievements. Its activities are carried out in compliance with the Law on Associations, it has a legal personality, and its registered office is situated in Łódź.

The Association fulfils its aims in a number of ways, such as working in conjunction with state institutions and NGOs operating in areas incorporating those aims. These include organising and financing cultural and artistic events, concerts, and ballet and theatre performances, as well as national and international festivals and competitions in ballet, contemporary dance, choreographic art and theatre, with participants hailing from Poland and across the world.
