Ladies and Gentlemen!

The 4th International Sergei Diaghilev Competition of Choreographic Art has taken place on December 21st-22nd 2009 in The Grand Theatre in Łódź (Poland). The fourth edition of the competition was a crowning finale of the centennial anniversary, celebrated worldwide, of the establishment of the famous ballet company „Les Ballets Russes de Serge Diaghilev” which performed under the directorship of the world-renowned Russian impresario Sergei Diaghilev in the years 1909-1929.
On December 21st, 13 talented choreographers from various countries presented their works on the stage of the The Grand Theatre in Łódź. The International Jury, its chairman being the world-renowned dancer Vladimir Malakhov, awarded the Grand Prix of the Competition – the statue of “Bursztynowy Faun” (The Amber Faun) as well as the cash award to the Italian choreographer VITO ALFARANO, and the first prize went to the Brazilian choreographer ALEXANDRE ALMEIDA.
On December 22nd, The 4th International Sergei Diaghilev Competition of Choreographic Art was concluded by the wonderful Great Ballet Gala “Vladimir Malakhov and the stars of the Staatsballett Berlin.” Following the awards ceremony, choreographies of this year´s Competition laureates – Alexandre Almeida and Vito Alfarano – were presented before the performance of the stars of the Staatsballett Berlin.
My heartfelt thanks go to all participants of the Competition for taking part in this year´s event. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all government agencies and public authorities as well as private companies for their assistance and contribution to the realization of The 4th International Sergei Diaghilev Competition of Choreographic Art by supporting my efforts to present and promote the achievements of international choreographic artists. My special thanks go to my dear Friends for their organizational commitment and their confidence in the success of this event.
